Bonfire

::

A full moon rising
Its pale white light glowing
Stars become glassy pinpoints
Slipping through the fabric
Draped over us tonight
Chairs are gathered
Benches carried in haste
Blankets piled on willing arms
A haphazard shape constructed
Staying fairly close together
An effort to see smiling faces
And we’re all quite aware
It’s just getting underway
The fire begins to burn
Streamers of flames
Grasping to gain the sky
Embers like confetti
Raining down in display
A silence that’s well known
Comfortable and relaxed
Then some begin to move
Sticks are scrounged up
Marshmallows are opened
Chocolate is melted
Old stories get told again
And laughter comes easily
Friends and family together
Where love is undisturbed
And treasured above all
The blaze burns brighter
Continually growing in size
Distributing its effects in waves
It bathes you in brightness
Against a backdrop of night
I feel you lean close
Your lips against my ear
With whispered words of love
Settling me closer to your side
With my heart in your hands
The rumble of your voice
Imprinted in my mind
Leaving nothing to be forgotten
