Interesting Ideas

So I finally went to photography class after missing it twice last week. There was a test... and thankfully not a hard one. But we also watched a video on a famous French photographer, Henri Cartier-Bresson. He just died recently but in the video he was so fiesty, and didn't care what people thought, and had his own views that go against the whole "American Dream." While sitting in class watching this 87 year old man talk about how he "Loathes the idea of a career, of money and power and success." How the word 'work' implies something you don't like to do. "Photography is not work for me, it gives me pleasure." How you don't take photographs, photographs capture you. "Photography is putting one’s head, one’s eye, and one’s heart on the same axis. " I basically just got a perspective and inspiration that had never considered or thought of, and some pieces of conversation that I'm pretty sure are already helping me to look at things differently. I drove home listening to classical music and just thinking "wow". I don't even know where I'm going with this, or why I wrote it down, but I'm very glad I went to class and I really like the spunky old man who made me smile the entire time I watched him... he was great. lol

So I work pretty much everyday this week. Sometimes I feel like I have no life outside of school, work, sleep, hw, and seeing my family in passing. It's just seems so wrong. But hey, maybe life is like that sometimes... not always enjoyable and entertaining. I'll be a big girl and deal with it... eventually. I might whine about it some more here and there just for my own satisfaction :-P

But I am glad that fall is here. Sweaters and vests, jeans and sweatshirts, pumpkins and caramel apples, changing leaves and the crispness in the air, sunny days that are actually cool and just comfortable. Granted, the light doesn't last as long this time of year, and so by about 8pm I think it's 11pm... but I can deal with that. Just means I feel like it's later and get more done because I'm weird and nocturnal like that lol.

Lisa was here all weekend, came home to surprise my mom. It was fun hanging out and laughing as usual. Waking up and seeing her in our room is always a good feeling, feels more normal...more right. And the way we can call each other and say, 'There's a movie starting in 15 min, wanna go? We have to leave right now." And know that most likely, we'll be on our way within 5 minutes. Cracking up at family and talking about what's going on with everyone, enjoying the easy way we understand each other and know thoughts sometimes before we ever say them. I just love our relationship.

And as much as I would love to keep writing about everything and anything, I really should stop procrastinating and get my math hw done before I have to leave for class in a little over an hour. Anybody wanna do it for me? I might even pay you... with cookies :) haha Love you friends, hope your weeks are all starting off well. ttys!

Starry-Eyed and Sleep Deprived

There is something about sleep deprivation and the crack of dawn that just combines to invade and permeate me, making me think about things in a completely different light. Granted, it could be the exhaustion talking, but I don't know if thinking this clearly is really an illusion or the real deal. All I know is things take on a new perspective after I waste away the wee hours doing absolutely nothing with friends and then coming home to lay down and having a million things running at the speed of light through my mind. It is a cruel cruel world.

I had all my lights on as I sat abruptly up in bed, curling my comforter around me, and sitting in serious contemplation staring at my corkboard. My corkboard is full of pictures, verses, quotes, memories, and dreams. Inspiration, motivation, contemplation. A seriousness settles over me at times like this. At 5:30 am when my house is dead to the world and everyone is sleeping soundly. And I am awake, and staring intently at a wall full of things that at one time or another had a profound impact on me and changed the way I saw others, myself, and the world. And laying back in my bed, staring at my ceiling, where there is a map of toledo taped up, where I see it everytime I lay down. A map to remind me of where my heart should lie, where it should be focused. A city that is lost. A population of people that will die and go to hell while I take the luxury to sleep in every day and skip prayer because I feel tired. Sometimes I disgust myself. And mornings like this make me reconsider my entire point of view and perspective on what I'm doing, what matters, and what I really care about. Where do my priorities really lie? Do I really live the life I say I live? Do I really know Him? Know His heart? When was the last time I took Him seriously and spent quality time just seeking His face, His voice, His desires? Since when did I divide my own desires, and His? They were once one and the same. So where have I gone wrong? I feel like I drowning in a sea I created for myself. A sea of my own choices, and I don't even want to reach up and let Him see the person I have become. Because He wouldn't recognize me. I don't have the strength to reach up. Just the strength to hope that I can somehow deal with the choices I've made, the consequences of them, and still be able to hold His hand through it all and know He loves me.

When I can't reach up, Lord, you reach down to grab ahold of me. Help me not to let go. I am in the grip of grace.

Sorry for the serious post... I'll try to make the next one a bit more up beat for all those faithful readers ;) I love you all... bear with the solemness :) I love you all.

all over the place

How great is this:
"I have decided that every phrase should include the words "holy" and "batman." It just makes everything you say a little more fun. Like, you go to a movie.. and they're like what do you want to eat... and you say.. "holy buttered popcorn batman!" And you have to say it with flair! And in a deeper voice than you normally speak in. You can even say it to yourself... like you wake up in the morning "holy crazy dream sequence batman!" See.. it's fun. You should try it sometime."
I literally laughed out loud reading it. So props to you Bee, you always make me laugh unexpectedly.

Oh man, today, I was on my half hour break at work and I was eating one of those chicken salad sandwiches (from Arby's mmm!) and I seriously bit my tongue soooo hard. I was just sitting there going... "gosh daaaaarn it!" It made me so mad! How do I even do that? How do we bite our tongues? Just happen to mistake them for food? I need help lol. Anyways, the pain subsided and I was fine, but it killed like a mother for a good 10 seconds straight.

I have literally had this window open for an hour. I start talking to friends and look what happens, total distraction. Life right now is just... busy. But good. I haven't been in the mood to take pictures. So it sucks b/c I need film to develop for class. I always procrastinate doing my hw, but that's normal ;) I still get to keep up with Alias and Smallville thanks to Bee for taping them for me... so sweet of her. She knows Id be in withdrawal without them. Altho both are stupid right now. Stupid tv shows. And I'm hooked lol.

Okay, time for me to end this before I end up typing randomly on it all night long. Love you friends, miss you, and we'll talk soon - much love -

What A Weekend!

Well, another story for the books...

I spent friday driving lisa home from kent, and stopping in Oberlin Ohio at 8:30 b/c she had a court date. And let me tell you, Oberlin is literally a time warp. I felt like I was in a movie. We were sitting in court with the most random mix of people alive. We had to watch a video, have question and answer time, watch a rent a cop get his stance down pat, see an old man proudly plead guilty for being charged with having an open container in his car while driving, hear the judge make fun of this guy for not understanding that "no contest" means you have to have a defense, watch a man walk up to the judge with a drawing of "what really happened" and explain how he drove past a stopped school bus, and listen to the judge say," the law is pretty harsh, on people like you" to a girl who was driving on a suspended license and trying to get out of it. We laughed for an hour afterwards just trying to recover, and had so much fun reinacting the entire scene for our family. So great.

And, another one bites the dust...

Saturday we got up and drove with my mom and grandma to chicago b/c my cousin, Jordan, was getting married. Nothing is funnier than a huge group of crazy college students and adults dancing to "shake shake shake, shake your booty" and looking completely wasted while being completely sober. It was a blast. Sunday we got up and had brunch with the family, then headed home while I slept most of the way haha

Bump, Set, Spike

Last night was church and dinner at 5, with this amazing white chicken chili, and the guys watching football until service started. Then it was worship and a message from Zach that was so simple and true, we wondered why we've complicated it so much all this time. "Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven." And Romans 12:2, "... then you will be able to test and approve what the will of God is." How it is our job to prove the will of God. That His will in heaven be done on earth. The things that freely operate in heaven like joy, peace, health, and love are free to operate here on earth. he wants heaven on earth. That "thy kingdom come" is literally a phrase to bring heaven here to us, here and now. It was awesome. We ended up getting done about 7 and then headed downtown to the docks to the sand volleyball courts for some intense competitive games. Let me tell you, those boys don't mess around! I had sand in every place imaginable... and then some lol. I had my fair share of dives and saves and it was a so much fun. I can't wait for a rematch to claim our victory haha

So that's my recap. It was just an all around enjoyable weekend. I hope everyone's was just as great in one way or another! I'll talk to most of you soon, till then, much love :)
